CONDENSATORS

Our range of capacitors for electric motors includes operating capacitors, also called motor capacitors or motor operating capacitors, starting capacitors, explosion-protected capacitors and radio interference suppression capacitors. We only stock high-quality capacitors from renowned manufacturers such as Comar, Hydra (formerly AEG), FTCap or SÜKO.

Starting capacitor or operating capacitor?

Starting capacitors
are used for motors that require a high starting power. When the rated speed is reached, the starting capacitor is switched off by a centrifugal switch or a relay. The permissible duty cycle is often marked on the capacitor in "percentage of operating time", e.g. 1.8%.

PLEASE NOTE:
Starting capacitors must be switched off after the starting time, otherwise they will be destroyed. If you are not sure whether you need a run capacitor or a start capacitor, always choose a run capacitor if in doubt.

Run capacitors
remain connected to the mains during the entire running time of the motor. The motor capacitor generates a second phase that supplies an auxiliary winding. This supplies more power to the motor. Run capacitors are often marked with indications such as DB (= continuous operation) or ED (= duty cycle) 100%, or similar.

Interferencesuppression capacitors
also called interference suppression capacitors or radio interference suppression capacitors, are mainly used in power tools and electrical appliances to eliminate interference signals. In the process, high-frequency signals are diverted or short-circuited by the interference suppression capacitor to earth or the neutral conductor. This reduces the electromagnetic interference.

Explosion-proof or EX capacitors
are suitable for use in potentially explosive environments. They are approved according to EC Directive 94/9 EC (ATEX 100a) and thus comply with the European standards for explosion protection. Their use is approved in all potentially explosive areas of zones 1 and 2.
