ESS30-S003-DC24V-4A ETA Electronic circuit breaker is available to buy in increments of 1

The ESS30-S electronic circuit breaker with galvanic isolation is the world's only "low energy breaker" for electronic overcurrent protection in DC 24 V applications. For use in decentralised and centralised power supply units, it meets the requirements of DIN EN 60934, UL 1077 as a supplementary protector and UL 1310 as a "Class 2 power unit" (NEC class2). The compact unit is designed for pluggable mounting on the 17plus and 18plus base systems as well as the SVS power distribution systems and guarantees quick and easy installation.
The ESS30-S, which is only 12.5 mm narrow, selectively protects all DC 24 V load circuits. This is achieved by a combination of active electronic current limiting in the event of a short circuit and an overload cut-off at typ. 1.2 x IN. DC 24 V switched-mode power supplies are used very frequently in automation technology. In case of overload, however, they regulate the output voltage that is to supply all connected loads. So if a fault occurs in a single load in the system, the voltage also collapses in all other load circuits. This often results not only in an undefined fault condition, but even in a standstill of the machine or system.
The maximum possible overcurrent is always limited to 1.2 times the selected rated current (see Table 1). This makes it possible to switch on capacitive loads up to 40,000 μF without any problems For adaptation to the load conditions, the rated current is available in fixed values of 0.5 A...10 A and in the adjustable variants 1 A/2 A or 3 A/6 A.
Operating and error states are indicated by a multi-coloured LED and integrated signalling outputs. The manual ON/OFF switch directly on the unit allows targeted commissioning of individual load circuits and resetting after overcurrent-related shutdowns.

Main features:

  • Pluggable on power distribution modules 17plus, 18plus and SVSxx

  • Galvanic isolation in the event of a fault

  • Active linear current limitation

  • Capacitive loads up to 40,000 μF

  • Fixed current ratings 0.5 A...10 A (0.5A...3.6A NEC Class 2)

  • 2 levels (1 A/2 A or 3 A/6 A) adjustable via switch on the unit

  • Approvals: UL, NEC Class 2, VDE

  • Reduces storage costs as one unit covers 2 rated currents

  • Offers high flexibility due to pluggability and easy adjustment of the rated currents

  • Saves costs, as the units up to 3.6A with UL1310 (NEC Class 2) approval replace the expensive switch-mode power supplies provided for them

  • Saves energy costs due to 1/3 lower power loss than comparable solutions

  • Increases system availability through clear fault detection and signalling
