The ESS20-0.. electronic circuit breaker ensures selective protection of all load circuits supplied by a DC 24 V power supply unit.
DC 24 V switching power supply units (10 A...40 A) are very frequently used in automation technology. However, in the event of an overload, they regulate the DC 24 V output voltage that is to supply all connected loads. This means that a fault occurs in a single load of a system and the supply voltage collapses in all other load circuits. In addition to an undefined fault condition, this often means that the entire system comes to a standstill.
Selectivity in this context therefore means that the ESS20-0.. reacts faster than the switch-mode power supply to the overload or short-circuit condition in a load circuit. This is ensured by the combination of active electronic current limitation and proven circuit breaker technology including galvanic isolation
. The ESS20-0.. limits the possible overcurrent to 1.8 or 1.5 times the selected rated current. This makes it possible to switch on capacitive loads up to 75,000 μF and lamp loads, but they are only switched off in the event of an overload or short-circuit.
For adaptation to the load conditions, the ESS20-0.. rated current is available in fixed values of 0.5 A...10 A and in the adjustable variants 1 A/2 A or 3 A/6 A. A two-colour LED as well as an integrated
signal contact indicate the operating and fault status.
The small construction width of only 12.5 mm and the pluggability of the ESS20-0.. on the E-T-A current distributors Modul 17plus and SVSxx (for ESS20-003) guarantee space-saving and fast top-hat rail mounting of the components in the control cabinet.
