The ESX10-Sxxx device expands the "electronic overcurrent protection" product group for DC 24 V applications. With a width of only 12.5 mm, it selectively protects all DC 24 V load circuits. This is achieved by a combination of active electronic current limitation in the event of a short circuit and an overload cut-off typically from 1.2 x IN. The ESX10-S is pluggable and thus offers fast and flexible mounting for device groups with several circuits on the power distributors Modul 17plus and SVSxx. DC 24 V switched-mode power supplies are used very frequently in automation technology. However, in the event of an overload, they regulate the output voltage that is to supply all connected loads. So if a fault occurs in a single load in the system, the voltage also collapses in all other load circuits. Often, this results not only in an undefined fault condition, but even in a standstill of the machine or system. This is exactly where the ESX10-S intervenes by reacting faster than the switching power supply to the overload condition. The maximum possible overcurrent is limited to typically 1.4 times the selected rated current (see Table 1). This makes it possible to switch on capacitive loads up to min. 20,000 µF, but they are only switched off in the event of an overload or short circuit. For adaptation to the load conditions, the rated current can be set in whole numbers from 1 A to 10 A via a rotary switch. Operating and fault states are indicated by a multi-coloured LED, an integrated short-circuit-proof status output (individual or group alarms) or via a potential-free relay contact (change-over contact). Remote actuation is possible via a remote reset signal. The manual ON/OFF switch directly on the unit allows targeted commissioning of individual load circuits. As soon as the ESX10-S detects an overload or short-circuit in its load circuit, it disables the load output transistor and thus interrupts the current flow in the faulty circuit. Once the fault has been rectified, the load output of the ESX10-S is reactivated by an electronic reset signal or manually by pressing the ON/OFF switch directly on the unit.
